FRIENDLY FIRE: ANIBAL LOPEZ AT DOCUMENTA 13

In this lecture and subsequent open discussion, Jose Falconi will explore Aníbal Lopez’s contribution to Documenta 13, Testimonio (Testimony)—a performance in which the artist interviewed a contract assassin from Guatemala and opened the floor to questions from the audience. At the center of this action, the ethical problem of capitalizing of on social violence rubs up against the claim for artistic autonomy that we have inherited from the avant-garde. It is this thorny problem that Falconi will address and engage the audience with.
